Tioga is a small Grayson County town on US 377, signed here as Ray Roberts Parkway, between Denton and Sherman. It started in 1881 as a Texas and Pacific Railroad stop and later spent a stretch as a mineral-water health resort; Gene Autry was born here and graduated from Tioga High in 1925, and Gene Autry Drive still carries his name. The roads that matter: US 377 through town, FM 121, FM 922 meeting 377 on the east side by Lamar Street and Shawnee Drive, Main Street (Tioga City Park sits at 700 North Main, by the Hammond Lake reservoir), and Florence Street (Tioga School at 405 North Florence, Tioga ISD). The Lake Ray Roberts Wildlife Management Area wraps the south side of town, and a 580-acre residential development is going in, with the proposed Dallas North Tollway extension aimed between Tioga and Gunter.
The tree stock here is ranch country. Post oaks and blackjack oaks on the higher ground, cedar elms and pecans on the bottomland along Buck Creek, and bois d'arc hedge rows, Osage orange, along the old fence lines dropping heavy green fruit all fall. Open-grown trees take the full spring storm track with no windbreak, so dead limbs over fences and gates are the norm, and pasture-country trees take lightning strikes. The other pattern is new construction: subdivisions grading around native post oaks, and post oaks decline fast once the root zone gets compacted or the grade changes.
We do the full spread in Tioga: crown cleaning on the big open-grown oaks, storm cleanup, fence-line clearing where the bois d'arc is leaning on the wire, mesquite and brush clearing in the pastures, and preservation work for homeowners who bought a lot because of the native trees and want to keep them. Free on-site estimates, and the preservation advice comes with them.

Common Tree Issues in Tioga, TX
🌳 Open-Grown Oaks in Pasture Country
Big post oaks and pecans standing alone in pastures catch the full wind and the lightning. Crown cleaning and deadwood removal keep the good ones standing for decades. On heritage specimens, lightning protection is worth a conversation.
🟠 Bois D'Arc on the Fence Lines
Osage orange hedge rows lean on fences and drop heavy fruit all fall. We clear the hedge lines, grind the stumps, and the fence stays up. One call, done right.
🌪️ Storm Track Damage
Spring storms snap the deadwood out of open crowns and drop it on fences, gates, and roofs. Hazard-first cleanup, then the repair pruning that decides whether the tree stays or goes.

Tioga Tree Service FAQs
Our new build kept the native post oaks. How do we keep them alive?
Keep equipment, fill dirt, and trenching out of the root zone, and do not change the grade around the trunk. We do preservation pruning, deadwood removal, and an honest assessment of which trees the construction stressed past saving. The earlier we look, the better the odds.
The bois d'arc is wrecking our fence line. Do you clear it?
Yes. Fence-line clearing is routine work here. We cut the hedge row back to the line, grind the stumps so it does not come back, and haul the wood. Your fence stays standing.
How much does tree removal cost in Tioga, TX?
