My old pecan barely leafed out this spring. Is it dying?
Maybe, maybe not. Scratch a small patch of bark on a few limbs: green underneath means it's alive; dry and brittle means that limb is done. Pecans can live a century, but drought years, old storm wounds, and crowded roots catch up with them. We check the crown, the trunk, and the ground around it, then tell you straight whether corrective pruning buys it years or the tree is already gone.
Can you clear cedar out of my pasture without tearing the place up?
Yes. That's most of what pasture clearing is: directional felling away from the keepers, careful equipment routes, and hauling out of the debris. The goal is the land looking better the day we leave, not rutted up.
