Gordonville sits on FM 901 at the south shore of Lake Texoma, twelve miles north of Whitesboro in the northwest corner of Grayson County. It started as part of Holford's sheep ranch until 1872, when Mark Clayton picked the site for his general store. The town is named for Captain Silas M. Gordon, treasurer to William Clarke Quantrill's guerrillas, who camped in this country during the Civil War and stayed to run a trading post when Quantrill moved on. The Gordonville post office is one of the oldest in the county. About 165 people live here. The lake brings the rest.
